Running your own business in the fitness industry can be tough, with everything from finances to marketing and team management to consider. Here, Fitness Guru and Elevate Fitness Hub Director, Rahul Mehra, shares his top tips to get your business ready for 2023.

“There are many gyms and fitness centers opening these days, which is fantastic for the industry as it shows growth and increased awareness of health and wellness,” says Rahul. “But if you want to thrive, you need to look at what other gyms are offering and aim to do more or do better. If you find the start of the year to be a quieter time, use it wisely to revamp your gym, enhance your skills, and network as much as possible.

PREPARE FOR EVERYTHING

Preparation is key to running a successful fitness business. At Elevate Fitness Hub, we’ve made it a practice to sit down as a team and brainstorm potential challenges we might face—like low attendance, last-minute cancellations, or underperforming classes. Once we identify these issues, we create processes to address them, such as new marketing strategies or membership policies like cancellation protection.

Certain jobs take precedence over others and can change as the day or week goes on, so when I do my job list, I often put a star next to the jobs of higher priority. If a staff member becomes ill and appointments need changing or rescheduling, this automatically becomes high priority as our clients are the most important people and it’s imperative that they are taken care of and not messed around.

Success in 2023 is all about delivering exceptional services and experiences. While having an online presence is important, I believe building a strong, loyal, physical following is even more valuable. Invest in creating a welcoming gym environment, offer personalized training plans, and host community events to engage with members on a personal level.

If an external opportunity arises, I block out my schedule on our booking system as soon as possible to minimize disruptions. However, if something urgent comes up, I know I can use our member messaging system to inform everyone quickly and without hassle.
